WoW Forever Skyborne Guide: Racials, Classes, and How to Unlock

The Skyborne are the new playable race introduced with World of Warcraft: Forever, and they bring a distinctly mobility-focused toolkit to Azeroth. After reviewing the current beta information and testing how the racials fit into actual gameplay, we think the most important thing to understand is that Skyborne are built around movement, Haste, and elemental encounters rather than one overwhelming combat bonus.

Blizzard confirms that the race is available through the Skyborne upgrade packs, with the Heroic Pack providing access to the race and the Epic Pack adding Forever Beta access. The official Blizzard edition breakdown is the best reference for current package contents.

How Does the Skyborne Racial System Work?

Every Skyborne shares three racials: Walk on Air, Wind Blessed, and Elemental Insight. The fourth racial depends on faction, with Alliance characters receiving Read Ley Line and Horde characters receiving Skysight.

RacialTypeCore Function
Walk on AirActiveGlide downward and control your movement
Wind BlessedPassive1% melee, ranged, and spellcasting Haste
Elemental InsightPassive5% increased damage against Elementals
Read Ley LineAllianceIncreased Health and Mana regeneration
SkysightHordeIncreased movement speed

These values are based on current beta and demo information, so we recommend treating them as subject to tuning before launch.

What Do the Shared Skyborne Racials Do?

Walk on Air

Walk on Air is the racial that most clearly defines the Skyborne experience. Current tooltip information describes a downward glide lasting up to 10 seconds, allowing players to control their direction during the descent.

From years of playing terrain-heavy MMO zones, we know how valuable controlled movement can become when a zone contains cliffs, towers, ravines, or elevated objectives. It is not flight, and it provides much less value on flat terrain, but it can turn awkward descents into efficient travel.

Wind Blessed

Wind Blessed provides a permanent 1% increase to melee, ranged, and spellcasting Haste. It requires no activation and works across the Skyborne class roster, making it the most consistently applicable combat racial in the package.

The number is deliberately modest, so players should not treat it as a universal damage multiplier. Instead, it is a small passive advantage that remains relevant whether you are questing, farming, healing, or fighting through endgame content.

Elemental Insight

Elemental Insight increases damage dealt to Elemental creatures by 5%. That makes it useful in areas, dungeons, and encounters where Elemental enemies are common, while providing no equivalent benefit against other creature types.

This distinction matters when planning farming routes. If your preferred activities involve Elemental enemies or materials, the racial can save time over hundreds of kills; otherwise, it should be viewed as a situational bonus rather than the main reason to choose Skyborne.

Read Ley Line vs. Skysight: What Changes by Faction?

Read Ley Line – Alliance

Alliance Skyborne receive Read Ley Line, which activates a ley line and increases Health and Mana regeneration. Current demo information indicates that its duration and interaction with nearby ley lines can vary, so we would not treat those beta values as final.

The ability has particular relevance to Mana-dependent classes and longer outdoor leveling sessions. It can reduce downtime between fights, which is easy to underestimate until you spend several hours leveling through a Classic-style environment.

Skysight – Horde

Horde Skyborne receive Skysight, an elemental blessing that increases movement speed. Current beta information lists a 10% movement-speed increase, with duration and environmental interactions still subject to final tuning.

Movement speed is one of those bonuses that rarely looks impressive on a tooltip but becomes noticeable over an entire leveling session. It can improve travel between objectives, gathering routes, melee positioning, and general outdoor movement.

Which Classes Can Play Skyborne?

Both factions can choose Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, and Druid. Alliance Skyborne can additionally choose Mage, while Horde Skyborne can choose Shaman.

How to Unlock Skyborne

Skyborne are tied to the optional upgrade packs rather than being included automatically with a standard World of Warcraft subscription. Blizzard currently lists the Skyborne Heroic Pack as the entry-level package containing race access, while the Skyborne Epic Pack and Warcraft Forever Collection also include the race.

Skyborne characters begin in Zephras Isle, their dedicated starting experience, before entering the wider world.

How Skyborne Fits Into Everyday Progression

The Skyborne toolkit is particularly interesting for players who spend significant time traveling, farming, and leveling rather than focusing exclusively on raid meters. WoW Forever Items farming routes can benefit from mobility, while WoW Forever Gold activities involving repeated outdoor gathering can make small movement and downtime advantages more noticeable.

We recommend choosing Skyborne based first on your preferred class and faction, then considering the racial bonuses. The racials are useful, but your class toolkit, playstyle, and the content you actually spend time doing will have a much larger effect on your overall experience.

Conclusion

Skyborne offer a flexible racial package built around controlled movement, modest Haste, Elemental specialization, and faction-specific utility. The biggest choice happens at character creation because faction determines the fourth racial and the additional class available to your character.

As with any beta guide, we recommend checking Blizzard's latest information before making a purchase or committing to a build. Current tooltip values can still change before World of Warcraft: Forever launches.

FAQ

Are Skyborne available to both factions?

Yes. Skyborne can be created on both Alliance and Horde, but each faction has a different fourth racial and an additional faction-specific class.

Can Skyborne become Mages or Shamans?

Alliance Skyborne can currently play Mage, while Horde Skyborne can currently play Shaman.

Is Walk on Air the same as flying?

No. Walk on Air provides a controlled downward glide and should be treated as a terrain-mobility ability rather than true flight.

Which Skyborne racial is best for farming?

That depends on the route. Elemental Insight helps against Elemental enemies, while Skysight can improve movement between outdoor objectives and gathering locations.

Will the current Skyborne racial numbers change?

They can. Several values currently come from beta or demo tooltips, so players should verify the final live-game numbers before treating them as permanent.
