Diablo IV Season 16 PTR Test End: What Stays and What Disappears

Diablo IV Season 16 brings several important changes to content introduced or featured during Season 15. The PTR gives us an early look at what survives the transition, which activities disappear, and which rewards may become harder or impossible to obtain through their current methods. For players planning their next season, knowing what to keep farming is just as important as learning what is new.

Our team has reviewed the PTR discoveries with one practical question in mind: what should players finish before Season 15 ends? The biggest changes involve Runes, Runewords, Uber Tristram, and Uber Mephisto. If you are also preparing your next character with Diablo 4 Items, it is worth separating long-term rewards from seasonal content before investing more time in the wrong activities.

Season 16 Carryover: What Players Need to Know

The most important distinction is that not every Season 15 feature follows players into the next season. Some familiar locations and rewards remain available, while several event-related systems and boss encounters are absent from the PTR.

Here is based on the test build:

ContentPTR statusWhat It Means for Players
RunesNot retainedDo not expect Season 15 event runes to carry over
RunewordsNot retainedThe associated system is absent from the PTR
TristramRemains availablePlayers can still visit the area
Uber TristramRemains availableThe encounter and its reward chest are still present
AnnihilusAppears to remain obtainableThe World Boss-related Clone event can still occur
TorchRemains availableThe Tristram content still supports its reward route
Wirt's Lucky Coin recipeRemains presentThe future source of the required coin materials is unclear
Capstone encountersRemoved from the PTRThe related dungeons and boss fights are no longer available
Uber MephistoRemoved from the shown PTR buildIts previous summon and farming route are unavailable

These are PTR observations, not a guarantee that every detail will remain unchanged at launch. Blizzard can still adjust systems before the live Season 16 release, so players should treat the in-game version as the final reference once the update arrives. Blizzard's official Season 16 PTR overview also explains that some Season 15 features will carry forward even though they are not included in the test build.

The main thing to remember is that PTR availability does not always determine what will make it into the live season. Finish rewards tied to disappearing activities, but wait for confirmation before treating every PTR discovery as a permanent Season 16 change.

What Stays in Season 16

Tristram and Uber Tristram

Tristram is one of the clearest examples of content surviving the transition. The portal remains accessible, and players can continue entering the area without repeating the previous unlock process described.

Uber Tristram also remains, including its three Uber Boss encounters. The important change is how players receive rewards after defeating them. The fights now follow a more familiar map-boss activation flow, and defeating the bosses can produce an initial reward for a character's first clear.

After that first clear, a reward chest appears. Players can interact with it to activate the encounter again, but receiving the chest rewards requires the relevant Wirt's Lucky Coin. This changes the old group-farming assumption: one player can no longer simply provide the coin and expect everyone in the party to collect the same reward.

Annihilus, Torch, and Wirt's Lucky Coins

Annihilus and the Torch remain part of the available reward ecosystem.

Annihilus is still connected to the World Boss encounter where the Diablo Clone can appear. The Torch remains associated with Uber Tristram, so players who still need it should not assume that the entire Tristram reward route is disappearing.

Wirt's Lucky Coin is more complicated. Its recipe remains visible in the PTR, but we could not identify a reliable way to obtain the required coin materials. They may come from an event, a rare drop, or another activity, but none of those possibilities is confirmed.

For now, we recommend treating the coin recipe as a surviving feature with an unresolved supply source. Do not build a farming plan around an assumed drop location until the live game or official patch information confirms it.

Theodore's Head and the Hidden Cow Content

Another unusual detail is Theodore's Head, a teddy-bear item that can still be obtained in the PTR through fishing in Tristram. It may be connected to a hidden pet or a secret area referred to as Chupivilla.

However, we were unable to activate that destination or confirm the reward. The item is worth noting as a surviving secret, but its full purpose remains uncertain.

What Disappears Before Season 16

Runes and Runewords

The answer to one of the most common player questions is straightforward: the Runes and Runewords shown in the Season 15 anniversary content do not remain in the PTR build.

We even found a couple of runes during testing, only for them to be removed because they were not supposed to exist in that build. These items were tied to the 30th-anniversary event rather than a permanent system intended to carry into Season 16.

If you have been farming them specifically for future use, adjust your expectations. This provides no reason to believe that these event-related Runes or Runewords will be available as part of the next season's progression.

Capstone Encounters and Uber Mephisto

The three Capstone-related encounters shown have disappeared from the PTR. Their associated areas and boss fights are no longer accessible in the test build, including the encounters involving Baal and Mephisto.

Uber Mephisto is a separate concern because its previous summon altar is also missing. We could still see the broader cow-related world, but without the altar, the old method of summoning Uber Mephisto was no longer available.

This matters for players chasing rewards tied to that encounter. The cow-themed armor and pet-related rewards, so anyone who still needs those items should consider farming them before the transition rather than assuming the old route will remain.

The cow interaction that previously rewarded special gloves is also no longer working in the PTR . Interacting with the cow does not produce the gloves as it does in the current live version shown by us.

Season 16 Story Spoilers: Tyrael and the Reaper Council

The PTR contains more than system changes. It also appears to reveal early pieces of the next seasonal story. These discoveries are incomplete, so the following details should be treated as spoilers and potential story clues rather than confirmed narrative summaries.

The Tomb Without a Name

We discover a location called the Tomb Without a Name. Inside, a grave is marked by Eldruin, Tyrael's iconic sword. An interaction refers to rescuing Tyrael, but the expected encounter has been disabled in the PTR build.

The scene suggests that Tyrael has been captured, buried, or otherwise removed from the conflict. We do not yet know whether he is dead or imprisoned, and the test does not provide enough information to settle that question.

Still, the presence of Eldruin makes the tomb a notable story clue. It is likely connected to the larger conflict introduced in the next season, but the exact sequence of events remains unknown.

The Corrupter and The Fracturer

A fight against two enemies identified as The Corrupter and The Fracturer, together referred to as the Reaper Council.

Their encounter has a distinct two-boss structure:

  • One enemy fights inside the arena while the other attacks from outside.
  • The outside enemy applies ranged pressure while the active arena boss engages at close range.
  • When one boss loses roughly 25% of its health, the two enemies switch positions.
  • Explosive mines and other arena hazards add another layer of pressure.

This is one of the more interesting gameplay discoveries. The position swaps force players to keep moving and adjust their target rather than standing still and repeating a damage rotation.

We believe this fight may be part of the final green questline and could become a source of Mythic items and new seasonal materials. That is a reasonable possibility based on the role of similar bosses in previous content, but the PTR does not confirm the final reward table.

Amazon Class Speculation

We also discuss the Amazon as a possible future class, suggesting four archetypes: Archer, Spear, Minion, and Sword and Shield.

The class could arrive around summer 2027, but this should not be treated as a confirmed release date. This is better understood as a preview of possible future direction, not a formal class announcement or complete skill breakdown.

Summary: Prepare for the Season 15 Transition

The main takeaway from the Season 16 PTR is that some familiar content will remain, but several Season 15 systems and farming routes are set to disappear in the current test build. Tristram, Uber Tristram, Annihilus, and the Torch remain relevant, while Runes, Runewords, the Capstone encounters, and the previous Uber Mephisto route are absent.

For players preparing their next character, the best approach is to finish rewards tied to disappearing activities first, then review which surviving systems still need attention. Keep an eye on Wirt's Lucky Coin requirements, but wait for a confirmed source before planning repeated Uber Tristram runs around them.

FAQ

Do Runes and Runewords Carry Over to Season 16?

No. In the PTR , the Runes and Runewords associated with the Season 15 anniversary content are absent. Players should not expect to use them as a permanent Season 16 system.

Will Tristram Still Be Available?

Yes. Tristram remains accessible in the PTR, and its portal can still be used. Uber Tristram and its three Uber Boss encounters also remain available.

Can Players Still Farm the Torch?

The PTR shows that the Torch-related Uber Tristram content remains. However, the reward process has changed, so players should understand the new coin and reward-chest requirements before planning repeated runs.

Should You Farm Uber Mephisto Before Season 15 Ends?

If you still need rewards that depend on Uber Mephisto's current summon route, it is sensible to prioritize them before the transition. The altar is missing from the PTR , so the old farming method may not be available in Season 16.

Is the Amazon Class Coming in 2027?

About a possible summer 2027 arrival and mentions four potential archetypes. No confirmed release date or complete class details are established by the PTR . Keep your remaining Diablo 4 Gold and other resources focused on confirmed needs rather than planning around an unannounced class release.
