How to Upgrade RTTS Players in MLB the Show 26

If you're diving back into Road to the Show (RTTS) in MLB the Show 26 after a bit of a break, you might feel a little rusty. Getting your ballplayer from a bench-warming prospect to a dominant five-tool superstar takes some time, but the grind is a lot of fun when you know how the system works.

Whether you're trying to boost your overall rating or fine-tune specific tools, upgrading your player comes down to three main pillars: on-field performance, token allocation, and equipping the right gear.

1. Play the Game (And Do the Little Things Right)

First things first: there is no substitute for simply playing a lot of baseball. The core of your progression is tied to performance points and XP, which you earn naturally by just going out there and playing matches.

Every action on the field matters:

  • At the Plate: Getting solid contact, driving in runs (RBIs), and blasting home runs give you massive point boosts.
  • On the Mound/Field: Throwing strikes, racking up strikeouts, and making clean defensive plays keep your progression moving forward. (Just remember, on a routine groundout, the fielder gets the points for the out, but pitchers still get plenty of love for standard strikeouts).
  • Dynamic Challenges: Keep an eye out for in-game challenges during key situations. Secondary goals can net you nice bonuses—like an extra +25 point chunk—which speeds up your progress significantly.

At the end of every game, check your game summary and reward path progress. Every 100 points you accumulate translates into a singular token, and tokens are the lifeblood of your attribute upgrades.

2. Spend Your Tokens Wisely

Once you've logged some games and built up a bank of tokens, head over to the player management tools at the top of the screen to start boosting your raw stats.

Spend Your Tokens Wisely

You have total flexibility here, so you can either build a well-rounded athlete or specialize heavily:

  • Power & Speed: If your defensive throwing game is already feeling solid but your offense is lacking, dump your tokens into raw Power and Speed. It'll make a massive difference in turning deep flyouts into home runs and stretching singles into doubles.
  • Pitching: If you are running a two-way player or a pitcher, balancing your pitching attributes directly impacts your overall (OVR) rating.

Allocating these tokens is the fastest way to watch your player jump from a mid-50s prospect to a legitimate big-league threat.

Don't Forget Your Perks

Tokens are also used to unlock and upgrade your Perks. Perks give you situational boosts that can completely turn a game around—for example, a perk that makes your outfielders throw harder when your team is down in the late innings. Always save a few tokens to activate these passive abilities.

3. Hit the Shop for Diamond Equipment

If you have Stubs burning a hole in your pocket (especially if you grabbed the Deluxe Edition or have been saving up), the Show Shop is a massive shortcut to boosting your stats. Equipment adds flat percentage modifiers to your player's attributes, and it stacks up fast.

Hit the Shop for Diamond Equipment

If you have around 20,000 Stubs, you have a choice in how to spend them:

OptionCostWhat You GetStrategy
Silver+ Packs1,000 Stubs each4 Items (Silver or better equipment/perks)Great for filling out empty equipment slots early on.
Diamond Choice Pack15,000 Stubs1 Guaranteed Diamond ItemPerfect for getting a massive, permanent attribute boost.

A solid strategy is to buy a few 1,000-Stub packs to fill out your basic gear, and save the rest for a guaranteed Diamond choice pack.

When opening a Diamond choice pack, always pick an item for a slot you haven't filled yet, and make sure it matches your position. For example, if you aren't playing catcher, skip the catcher's mask and grab a premium Fielding Glove instead—a Diamond glove can give you a massive +6% boost to all relevant fielding and pitching stats instantly.

4. Equip Your Loadout

Once you've ripped open your packs, go to Apply Equipment and fill every single slot you can. Even small rewards add up:

  • Batting Gloves & Elbow Guards: Look for gold or silver items that give +2% to +4% boosts to hitting stats.
  • Leg Guards & Chest Protectors: Essential for keeping your defensive attributes high.
  • Ritual Items: Don't overlook these! Equipping something simple like "Film Study" gives a nice +1% passive boost across multiple attributes.

Upgrading your RTTS player in MLB the Show 26 is a satisfying loop. Play your games, complete your dynamic challenges, use your earned tokens to build up your base attributes, and spend your Stubs on high-tier equipment packs to overlay massive percentage boosts.
