Forza Horizon 6 is the latest installment in the Forza Horizon series, developed by Playground Games. Set in a stylized version of Japan, the game features over 550 cars, a dynamic seasonal system, and a massive open-world map. Notable locations include Tokyo, Shibuya Crossing, Mount Fuji, and the Tokyo Tower.
It's an open-world racing game with a huge focus on exploration, car culture, and customization. Players will race through various terrains, from urban streets to rural highways, and tackle events ranging from drift challenges to cross-country races.
When you first start Forza Horizon 6, you'll go through a cinematic prologue lasting about 20-25 minutes. This introduces the game's setting and gives you a feel for its racing events. It's mostly scripted, allowing you to experience some early races before getting into the deeper mechanics of the game.
At the start, you'll have the option to choose your first car. You'll pick between the Nissan Silvia, Toyota Celica, and GMC Jimmy. The Toyota Celica is a fan favorite thanks to its balance, but rest assured, you'll unlock all three of these cars early in your journey.
You start as a "Tourist" and aim to become a "Horizon Legend." To officially join the Horizon Festival, you need to complete two key tasks:

Unlike previous Forza Horizon games, FH6 introduces a zero-to-hero progression system. This is based on wristbands, each of which restricts what kind of cars you can use in certain festival events.
The map is centered around Tokyo, a city that's five times larger than any previous Horizon city. Expect to explore bustling streets, rural roads, and mountain paths—perfect for a mix of races and casual cruising. Key landmarks include Shibuya Crossing, Mount Fuji, and the Tokyo Tower.
Earning FH6 Credits (CR) is key to expanding your car collection. Early in the game, you'll find smashable “Mascots” scattered across Japan—smashing them provides a quick 5,000 CR. They're a great way to earn money while you explore.
As you explore, keep an eye out for Bonus Boards, murals, and hidden Forza Edition cars. These will fill your Collection Journal, which tracks your discoveries and provides additional rewards.
Start with driving assists like ABS, Traction Control, and the Driving Line turned on. These assists will help you stay in control as you learn the basics. As you get more comfortable, you can turn off assists to earn higher CR rewards for your races.
For now, focus on using the Auto-Upgrade feature to keep your car competitive within its class. For example, a C-Class car will have a Performance Index (PI) of 600—staying within that range ensures your car is competitive in events.
If you miss a checkpoint or crash badly, don't worry! Use the Rewind feature (press Y on Xbox) to go back and retry. It's a great tool for learning without having to restart the entire race.
As you progress, try different cars for various events. City races may require nimble cars, while mountain drift challenges will need cars with better control. Explore all car types to find what suits your racing style.
Once you're comfortable with driving, start experimenting with car tuning. Adjusting things like gears, suspension, and tire setups can significantly improve performance and make a huge difference in more advanced races.
Once you've built some skill in solo events, it's time to jump into online races. Competing against other players will help you improve your driving and offer a chance to test your car builds in more competitive environments.
