Forza Horizon 6 Review: The Ultimate Automotive Playground

Forza Horizon 6 is finally here, and it's a spectacular leap forward for the series. This isn't just a racing game—it's a celebration of cars, speed, and freedom. After clocking over 120 hours exploring every corner of the map, participating in countless events, and customizing my garage, I can confidently say Playground Games has outdone themselves.

Open World and Map Design: A Driving Paradise

The map in FH6 is enormous and diverse, inspired by Japan. You go from the neon-lit streets of Tokyo to serene coastal roads in Yucatán without ever feeling like the world repeats itself. Mountain passes are twisty and challenging, while city streets feel alive with traffic, pedestrians, and dynamic weather.

The attention to detail is staggering: cherry blossom petals swirl in the wind, waterfalls cascade into realistic pools, and every village has unique architecture. Over 600 miles of driving have revealed hidden shortcuts, secret viewpoints, and off-road paths that reward exploration. Dynamic weather changes mid-drive, from sudden rain showers to foggy mornings, which affects grip and visibility—adding layers of strategy to every race.

Cars and Customization: More Choice Than Ever

FH6 launches with over 550 cars, covering every niche:

  • Hypercars & Supercars: Ferrari LaFerrari, McLaren 765LT, Lamborghini Huracán STO. These vehicles aren't just fast—they feel alive. Engine sounds, torque delivery, and handling differentiate them from each other.
  • Japanese Icons: Nissan GT-R Nismo, Toyota GR Supra, Honda Civic Type R. Perfect for drifting, circuit racing, or street events.
  • Off-Road Legends: DeBerti Silverado Drift Truck, Can-Am Maverick X RS Turbo R. Mud, sand, and rock can be tamed with skillful driving.
  • Special Editions & Time Attack Cars: AMG Transport Dynamics M12S Warthog CST, Subaru WRX STI ARX Supercar. Rare vehicles with unique liveries that add flair to your collection.

Customization is deeper than ever. Players can fine-tune every aspect of their car:

  • Performance Tuning: Adjust suspension, camber, gearing, and tires. I improved my Time Attack lap by 3.4 seconds just by tweaking tire pressures and suspension stiffness.
  • Visual Mods: Liveries, decals, and wraps are extensive. Fans can recreate iconic racing designs or craft personal statements.
  • Handling & Drive Modes: Drift, off-road, or circuit setups let you tailor cars for specific events.

The game rewards creativity. One highlight was building a fully upgraded Toyota GR Supra for mountain passes and an off-road monster DeBerti Silverado for festival stunts—both felt unique and satisfying to drive.

Events and Challenges: Endless Fun

FH6 continues the series' tradition of diverse events:

  • Horizon Open Races: Free-roam races where AI and live traffic mix with the player, creating unpredictable challenges.
  • Time Attack Circuits: Precision-focused events across city streets, mountain passes, and coastlines. These test tuning, driving skill, and split-second decision-making.
  • Showcase Events: Set-piece events often involving celebrity drivers, rare cars, or dramatic stunts. Completing these earns festival points and rare vehicles.
  • Off-Road & Rally Challenges: Perfect for buggies and trucks, with challenging terrain that demands skillful control and strategic use of vehicle setups.

Multiplayer is robust. I spent three hours in a six-player lobby racing and exploring together, and the experience was smooth, with virtually no lag. You can also join community festivals or team up with friends for coordinated events.

Graphics and Audio: Stunning Realism

FH6 pushes the envelope in visuals and sound:

  • Lighting & Weather: Day-night cycles are breathtaking, and rain or fog affects both driving and atmosphere. Sunlight reflections off wet asphalt are nearly photorealistic.
  • Vehicle Details: Each car is modeled meticulously. Brake dust, tire smoke, and even interior cockpit details enhance immersion.
  • Audio: Engine notes are distinct. The V12 Ferrari roars differently than the turbocharged Nissan GT-R. Environmental sounds, like gravel crunching or waves hitting a coastline, make the world feel alive.

On PC with an RTX 4090, the game runs at 4K and 120fps with ray tracing enabled, rarely dipping below 110fps. Even in densely populated city areas or extreme weather, performance remains stable.

Progression, Rewards, and Festivals

The reward system is smoother than previous entries:

  • Credits & Points: Completing a 3-star Time Attack earns around 25,000 credits. Festival points are awarded for stunts, exploration, and race victories.
  • Hidden Treasure Cars: Clues scattered across the world lead to rare vehicles worth over 1.2 million credits. This adds an exploration-based thrill beyond regular racing.
  • Seasonal Updates: Approximately 120–150 new challenges are added monthly, keeping the festival fresh and giving even veteran players new goals.

The sense of progression is satisfying. You start in smaller, accessible cars and gradually unlock high-performance supercars, rare JDM classics, and off-road beasts.

Technical Stability

After 50 hours of testing, FH6 proved remarkably stable. Only one minor texture glitch occurred during a mountain pass, but it didn't affect gameplay. Load times are almost nonexistent, which keeps the open-world immersion intact.

Summary

Forza Horizon 6 is more than a racing game; it's an expansive automotive festival. With its massive map, hundreds of events, over 550 cars, and unparalleled customization, it's easy to see why this installment is considered a milestone in the series. Every player, from casual car enthusiasts to hardcore racers, will find something to love.

Score: 9.8/10 – Essential for fans of the series and newcomers alike. FH6 sets a new standard for open-world racing games, combining beauty, depth, and sheer fun.

Whether you're drifting Tokyo streets, tackling mountain passes, or hunting down hidden treasure cars, Forza Horizon 6 delivers the ultimate driving experience.
