The virtual roads of Japan in Forza Horizon 6 are packed with incredible performance machines, but few cars have as much pure personality as the 1989 Nissan PAO. This retro-styled JDM classic is tucked away as a hidden Barn Find in the scenic Minamino region.

If you are looking to add this unique piece of automotive history to your garage, here is exactly how to unlock and locate it.

Prerequisites to Unlock the Barn

Before you can head out and collect the car, you need to make sure the game will actually let you open the barn. Driving straight to the location early in the game will only lead you to a locked door. You must trigger the rumor first by meeting the following campaign requirements:

  • Reach Level 3 (Traveller): You need to invest some time into the "Discover Japan" campaign progress until you successfully unlock the Blue Stamp.
  • How to level up quickly: Focus on completing the yellow campaign story missions, tackling touge and road races, smashing regional mascots, or purchasing available houses.

Once you hit this milestone, a purple search circle will appear over the Minamino region on your map, signaling that the barn is active.

Exact Location and Directions

Finding the barn amid Minamino's dense terrain can be tricky if you don't know where to look. Follow these precise navigation steps to pinpoint the structure:

  • Map Reference: Open your world map and locate the primary river that runs vertically right through the center of Japan. Look directly east of this river into the Minamino territory.
  • The Roads: Identify the second main road running east of the river. Scan this road until you see a distinct, sharp L-shaped curve located in the middle of the Minamino region.
  • The Hidden Path: Drive north from that L-shaped curve. Keep your speed down and watch the right side of the road. Look for an unpaved dirt and gravel trail cutting into the thick woods.
  • The Barn: Turn onto this narrow dirt path and follow it straight toward the northeast edge of your purple search boundary. The trail dead-ends directly in front of the old, weathered barn housing the Nissan PAO.

If you want to skip the tedious level grinding and map scouting altogether, there is a much quicker way to get this retro JDM classic. You can easily find the Nissan PAO and many other rare rides over at U4N, widely considered the best place to buy FH6 cars safely and instantly. Whether you are short on playtime or just want to build your dream garage without waiting for random barn rumors to drop, securing your favorite vehicles online lets you hit the open roads of Japan completely on your own terms.

What Happens Next?

Approaching the barn triggers a cinematic cutscene where your character discovers the car. Following the scene, the vehicle is sent off to your garage for a full restoration.

The restoration process takes a few hours of real-time gameplay. You can easily pass the time by knocking out other racing events on your map, or if you simply cannot wait to customize it, you can pay a credit fee in the "Barn Finds" menu to bypass the timer and drive it instantly.

Bonus Tip: While you are already searching the eastern woods of Minamino, keep your eyes peeled. The 1969 Dodge Charger R/T Treasure Car is hidden just a short distance further to the east, making it easy to cross two rare cars off your checklist in a single trip.

The 1989 Nissan PAO in Forza Horizon 6 is one of the most distinctive "sleeper" vehicles in the game. Part of Nissan's famous retro-inspired "Pike Car" series, it completely trades raw horsepower for quirky style and mind-bending customization potential. It might look unassuming at a glance, but with the right upgrades, this small hatchback can become a giant-killer on tight, technical tracks.

Performance & Specifications (Stock)

In its default factory condition, the PAO belongs to the Cult Cars group and sits comfortably at the very bottom of D Class. It is incredibly slow off the line, but its lightweight chassis gives it surprisingly nimble handling right out of the box.

Key Upgrades & Customization

While the stock version struggles to climb steep hills, the PAO truly shines when you bring it into the festival garage. Because it weighs next to nothing, a few key modifications can transform it into a highly competitive vehicle for lower-tier racing or a ridiculous meme machine:

  • Engine Swaps: You can drop high-revving motorcycle engines or turbocharged Inline-4s into the engine bay, completely breaking the car's power-to-weight ratio.
  • Drivetrain Conversion: Convert it from the factory Front-Wheel Drive (FWD) setup to All-Wheel Drive (AWD) for maximum grip, or swap it to Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) to create a hilarious, ultra-short-wheelbase drift build.
  • Visual Flair: The in-game model features the optional canvas sunroof. It looks brilliant dressed up in retro JDM racing liveries, rusty "rat-rod" custom paints, or classic pastel colors.

Fast Customization Path

If you have already tracked down the barn find but do not want to wait around for the mechanics to finish their work, you can bypass the normal restoration time using the quick repair feature:

1. Visit a Hub: Prerequisite.

Travel to any Horizon Festival site or enter an owned player house to open the main menu.

2. Navigate to Barn Finds: Garage Menu.

Open the Garage tab and select the Barn Finds tile to view your collected vehicles.

3. Select the PAO: Instant Unlock.

Highlight the Nissan PAO box—even if the status currently says "Restoring."

4. Pay the Fee: Final Step.

Press the prompt on your screen to Quick Repair. Pay a small Credit (CR) fee to unlock the vehicle instantly and add it directly to your drivable roster.
