The release of the 0.5.0 content update has brought massive mechanical and structural changes to the endgame of Path of Exile 2. Among the most notable updates is a complete overhaul of the Ritual league mechanic. Grinding Gear Games has systematically redesigned how players interact with Ritual Altars, manage their Tribute, and ultimately challenge one of the game's core pinnacle encounters: The King in the Mists.
Any tribute not spent on rewards can now be sacrificed to gain an Audience with the King
Offer all of your remaining Tribute to be awarded with An Audience With The King.
Any remaining Tribute you don't spend can be sacrificed this way to fill up this bar.
Once you have enough Tribute for an audience, return to the Wildwood to divine his location with the Nameless Shrine. His location will be revealed deeper in the Wildwood, and you will need to make your way to him, kill him, and get Aoife’s body.
Using her body, you can attempt to release her spirit, but this is when you learn about the true threat of the League. The Wildwood is built on top of an ancient prison.
The King in the Mists didn't gain his power out of nowhere. He was granted it by an ancient being of darkness known as the Bodach, and the Nameless King's use of this power has been causing the prison to weaken.
The Wildwood & The King in the Mists
The New Hub: The Ritual mechanic now has a permanent home on the Atlas located to the West, called the Wildwood.
The Quest: Upon completing your first endgame Ritual, you meet a lost spirit named Aoife. She is bound to the Wildwood by the King in the Mists.
The Goal: To free Aoife, you must reclaim her physical body from the King in the Mists.
Locating the King:
Complete Ritual encounters inside the Wildwood to gather Tribute.
Sacrifice your unspent Tribute to fill a progress bar.
Once full, use the Nameless Shrine in the Wildwood to track down the King, defeat him, and retrieve Aoife's body.
Major Ritual Reward Overhaul
High-Value Loot: The reward window has been completely reworked. All items appearing in the window are now exclusively Uniques or Omens, making the league significantly more rewarding than its previous iterations.
The True Threat: Rite of the Nameless
Saving Aoife reveals an even deeper threat. The Wildwood sits atop an ancient prison holding an entity of darkness called The Bodach, whose power was given to the King in the Mists. To enter the prison and fight The Bodach, a champion must become "nameless" via a 5-map challenge sequence.
How the 5-Map Chain Works:
The Set-up: You begin the Rite in a forest. The final Ritual of the area includes the standard Map Boss. Defeating it drops a piece of the Effigy.
The Chain Mechanism: Once the map boss falls, the Atlas opens, forcing you to choose an adjacent map to continue the continuous Ritual chain.
Escalating Difficulty: Monster pools stack. Map 2 contains all monsters from Map 1 plus its own. By the final map, you must fight all accumulated map bosses simultaneously in the final encounter.
Strategic Map Rewards: Choosing your path on the Atlas alters your rewards:
Path A: Significantly more Tribute.
Path B: Converts all Uniques in the reward window into Currency.
Special Offers: Rare items (e.g., choosing between 5x Chaos Orbs or a Mageblood) can be added straight to the rewards.
The Climax: After completing all 5 maps, you return to the Wildwood, transfer your name to the Effigy, put on the Crown of the Nameless King, and enter the prison to face the Pinnacle Boss.
Endgame Repeatability & Atlas Tree
Gameplay Loop: The league doesn't end with the Pinnacle Boss. You can repeatedly sacrifice Tribute, run the Rite of the Nameless, and face harder versions of the boss for scaling Unique rewards.
Upgraded Atlas Tree: Earn passive points by completing maps in the Wildwood to unlock powerful nodes, including:
Extended Rites: Adds a 6th map to the chain (meaning you fight 6 bosses at once).
Double Rewards: Allows maps during the Rite to roll two reward modifiers instead of one.
Cross-Content Synergy: Gives Rituals a chance to spawn inside Summoning Circles, adding a random boss to the fight.
The Queen's Audience: Unlocks a rare new Ritual type where the Bride of the King can appear.
At the center of this progression system is An Audience with the King, a map fragment that serves as the physical key to the Crux of Nothingness.
1. Redefining the Ritual Mechanics in 0.5.0
New Storyline: Aoife lingers as a restless spirit, bound to the Wildwood and searching for one who might answer her call. The King in the Mists has claimed her flesh, leaving her soul adrift, untethered and unable to pass beyond. She believes that only by reclaiming what was taken can she be made whole once more. Meet the King: Head into the Wildwood to complete Rituals that resurrect bound monsters, earning Tribute that can now be spent on Uniques or Omens, making these encounters more rewarding than before. Use any remaining Tribute to fill the meter and gain an audience with the King in the Mists.
There a new Hub Area, "Caer Tarth" to the west of your starting location on the atlas. The maps around this location all contain Ritual encounters. Completing these maps gives you points for the Ritual Atlas Tree.
The Ritual Atlas Passive Tree has been completely revamped with many new nodes and existing nodes changed.
After completing a Ritual Altar encounter in a Map, locusts will point the way to the next Altar.
All items in the Endgame Ritual Reward screen are now either Uniques or Omens.
Any tribute not spent on rewards can now be sacrificed to gain an Audience with the King
Killing the King in the Mists now drops a new key, The Head of the King. This key can be used in Caer Tarth to begin the Rite of the Nameless.
The Rite of the Nameless is a new atlas mechanic in which you choose a series of 5 maps to complete a single continous ritual. The monsters from each ritual, including the map boss, will reappear in each map in the sequence making for a very challenging encounter. The unique bosses from each map will only appear in the final ritual of each map.
While choosing maps for the Rite of the Nameless, each map after the first will contain extra modifiers which affect the difficulty and rewards of the rituals during the Rite.
Each map in the Rite of the Nameless awards one element of the key used to access the Ritual Pinnacle Boss
Added New Boss: The Queen in the Mists available after allocating a specific node on the Atlas Tree. This boss can drop three new corrupted Idols.
Freythorn Rituals are now prevented from ever showing deferred items, to ensure items are not lost if returning to this area on a higher level character.
You no longer get offered Ritual Altar rewards after defeating the King in the Mists in Act 1 Freythorn.
As you venture into Caer Tarth and brace yourself for the grueling trials of the Rite of the Nameless, maximizing your character's power is essential to surviving these compounding boss encounters. Facing the newly added Queen in the Mists or tackling the relentless waves of resurrected monsters requires top-tier gear, optimized builds, and a steady supply of consumables. To ensure your exile is fully prepared for the challenges of patch 0.5.0, you can head over to U4N to buy cheap PoE 2 currency quickly and securely, giving you the competitive edge needed to conquer the Wildwood and claim your endgame rewards.
2. Gaining "An Audience with the King"
In the current version of the game, players no longer hope for an invitation item to randomly spawn in the Favour shop window. Instead, the surplus Tribute generated from completing these reinforced Rituals acts as the direct currency required to summon the boss.
[Clear Altars & Generate Tribute] -> [Purchase Uniques & Omens (Optional)] -> [Sacrifice Remaining Tribute to Fill Meter] -> [Receive "An Audience with the King" Fragment]
The progression pipeline flows through a natural loop:
Clear the Map Altars: Activate and survive the stacking waves of monsters at each Altar node to maximize the total Tribute pool.
Browse the Shop: Spend the required Tribute to purchase desirable Uniques or Omens.
Sacrifice Residual Tribute: Any remaining, unspent Tribute at the end of the map can be funneled directly into a dedicated progress meter.
Claim the Fragment: Filling this progress meter rewards the player with the map fragment: An Audience with the King.
3. Accessing the Crux of Nothingness
Once acquired, the fragment must be taken to the permanent Realmgate infrastructure on your Atlas. Placing An Audience with the King into the Realmgate opens portals to the Crux of Nothingness.

Fight Strategy Overview
The encounter with the King in the Mists is an unpausable, multi-phase battle that demands spatial awareness:
Environmental Hazing: Standing on the outer platforms triggers Portent Vapors, a stacking debuff that drastically increases the damage you receive.
The Ritual of Meditation: A red aura requires you to stand completely still for the final seconds of the curse or face being rooted in place.
The Ritual of Dance: A purple aura requires constant movement; stopping leads to immediate immobilization.
The Wildwood Maze: At the phase transition, players are thrown into a dark labyrinth and must follow glowing white wisps to escape before the environment overwhelms them.
4. Quality of Life: Fragment Stash Tab Integration
With the creation of specific boss fragments, Inscribed Ultimatums, and tablets, item storage management became a priority. Patch 0.5.0 officially introduces the Fragment Stash Tab to Path of Exile 2.
Cross-Title Availability: If you previously purchased a Fragment Stash Tab in Path of Exile 1, it automatically unlocks in Path of Exile 2 upon the deployment of the 0.5.0 patch.
Store Access: Players without the tab can purchase it under the Microtransaction Store's "Stash Tabs" section.
Supported Item Types
The newly integrated tab organizes several endgame assets cleanly into dedicated slots:
Map Fragments: Core boss access keys, including An Audience with the King.
Splinters & Sets: Breach Splinters, Simulacrum Splinters, and completed Breachstones.
Mechanic Keys: Inscribed Ultimatums and Baryas.
Progression Assets: Tablets and customized map precursors.
