Continue ShoppingSeason 14 introduces an entirely new seasonal questline in Diablo 4, and one of the first major roadblocks many players encounter is Across the Threshold. Unlike standard campaign objectives, this quest requires defeating a powerful Realmwalker before entering the Deathtoll Chamber. If you know where to look, however, the quest is much easier than it initially appears. Completing it also opens the door to better Diablo 4 Items, seasonal progression, and more efficient Diablo 4 Gold farming later in the season.
Across the Threshold is part of Diablo 4 Season 14's Death Awakening storyline. Before beginning the quest, you'll need to create a Seasonal character, as none of the seasonal content is available on Eternal Realm characters.
After progressing through the opening missions, you'll eventually receive the objective to defeat a Realmwalker. This is where many players become stuck because the quest marker doesn't directly lead to the encounter itself.
There are two reliable ways to encounter a Realmwalker during Season 14.
The first method is participating in Surging Pandemonium Ruptures that appear during Helltides. Successfully completing these events has a chance to spawn a Realmwalker at the end. Since the appearance isn't guaranteed, you may need to complete multiple Ruptures before one finally shows up.
This method works well if you're already farming Helltides for experience, crafting materials, and additional Diablo 4 Items.
The faster and more consistent option is watching for the Realmwalker world event near Zarbinzet. A timer appears on the world map before the event begins, allowing you to travel there in advance instead of relying on random Helltide spawns. Once the Realmwalker appears, simply defeat it to continue the seasonal questline.
After defeating the Realmwalker, don't leave the area.
A portal immediately opens where the boss was defeated. This portal leads directly into the Deathtoll Chamber, which is required to progress the quest. Many players mistakenly follow the original quest marker elsewhere instead of entering the newly created portal, causing unnecessary confusion.
The Deathtoll Chamber is a solo challenge filled with enemies and seasonal rewards. Completing it advances the Death Awakening storyline and unlocks additional Season 14 content.
Even after finishing Across the Threshold, Realmwalkers remain one of Season 14's most rewarding activities.

If you're preparing for Torment difficulty, repeatedly clearing Realmwalker events becomes one of the most efficient ways to improve your character.
A few simple strategies can save a significant amount of time.
Start on Normal difficulty if your only goal is completing the seasonal story quickly. Higher difficulties are better saved for dedicated farming once your build is stronger.
If the Realmwalker isn't appearing through Helltides, check the world map for the scheduled event near Zarbinzet instead. Since the event follows a visible timer, it removes much of the randomness involved in searching.
While waiting for Realmwalker events, continue farming Helltides. You'll earn experience, seasonal reputation, crafting materials, and enough Diablo 4 Gold to prepare for later upgrades without wasting downtime.
Finishing this quest is more than just another campaign objective.
It unlocks one of Season 14's primary gameplay loops, allowing players to repeatedly challenge Realmwalkers, clear Deathtoll Chambers, and earn increasingly valuable loot. These activities become excellent sources of high-end Diablo 4 Items while also providing crafting resources needed for Mythic Unique progression.
The steady stream of equipment drops also reduces the need to spend excessive Diablo 4 Gold replacing gear through vendors or rerolling weak items too early.
Across the Threshold is designed to introduce players to Diablo 4 Season 14's new Realmwalker system. Although the objective can initially seem unclear, the process is straightforward once you know where Realmwalkers spawn. Whether you choose to farm Surging Pandemonium Ruptures or wait for the guaranteed world event near Zarbinzet, defeating the Realmwalker opens access to the Deathtoll Chamber and some of the season's best rewards.
After completing the quest, continue running Realmwalker events regularly to collect powerful Diablo 4 Items, build your seasonal reputation, and accumulate enough Diablo 4 Gold to prepare your character for Torment difficulty and the Season 14 endgame.
