Continue ShoppingGetting better at MLB The Show 26 usually comes down to two things: slowing the game down and setting yourself up for success before the pitch is even thrown. If you’re looking to move from casual play to competitive ranks, these ten strategies are the most effective ways to improve your game.

Most players struggle because they can’t see the pitch break clearly. Switch your hitting view to Strike Zone or Strike Zone High. It zooms in on the pitcher, making it easier to tell a high fastball from a dirt-bound curveball. It takes time to get used to the lack of "atmosphere" in the stadium, but the tactical advantage is worth it.
While "Timing" or "Directional" hitting feels easier, they rely too much on the game's internal dice rolls. Zone Hitting gives you a Plate Coverage Indicator (PCI) that you control with the left stick. It’s harder to master, but it’s the only way to consistently drive the ball when you know where a pitch is going.
The biggest mistake beginners make is swinging at the first strike they see. Even if a pitch is in the zone, if it isn’t in your "sweet spot," let it go. Working the count wears down the pitcher’s energy and confidence, which makes their pitches slower and their PCI windows larger later in the inning.
If you want to place the ball exactly where you want it, Pinpoint Pitching is the gold standard. It requires tracing specific gestures with the right stick. It’s less forgiving than "Meter" or "Classic," but once you learn the rhythm for a 4-seam fastball versus a slider, you’ll give up far fewer home runs on "hanging" pitches.
If you struggle with a specific part of the plate—like high-and-inside fastballs—use the PCI Anchor (L3/Left Stick Click). This locks your starting position to a specific quadrant. It prevents you from having to "flick" the stick as far, leading to more precise contact on the pitches you’re hunting.
Jumping straight into a Ranked Seasons game is a recipe for a loss. Spend 10 minutes in Custom Practice against an elite pitcher like Nolan Ryan or Randy Johnson. Set the difficulty to Legend and practice simply taking pitches and tracking the ball. When you go back to All-Star difficulty, the ball will look like it’s moving in slow motion.
New players tend to stare at the middle of the strike zone. Instead, shift your focus to the pitcher’s release point—the "window" where the ball leaves their hand. Identifying the spin and trajectory the moment it’s released gives you those extra milliseconds needed to decide whether to swing or lay off.
In Diamond Dynasty, don't just chase the players with the highest Power stats. Look for Contact and Vision. High Vision makes your PCI larger, which is vital when you face top-tier pitchers. Also, ensure your bench has at least one high-speed runner for late-game pinch-running and one "Lefty Specialist" for tough matchups.
Many players leave their starters in too long. In MLB The Show 26, once a pitcher’s energy turns yellow or red, their "Par" (the blue circle around the pitch) expands significantly, making them inaccurate. Be proactive with your warm-ups. If a pitcher gives up two hard hits in a row, it’s usually time to look at the bullpen.
Pitching is about patterns. If you throw a low-and-away slider and the hitter swings and misses, they will expect it again. Use that against them. Throw a fastball in the same tunnel, or a changeup even further outside. Conversely, as a hitter, try to identify your opponent's "panic pitch"—the one they throw every time they get into a 3-ball count. Once you find it, sit on it and wait.
